Why move your checkbook transactions to latest version of Excel checkbook template

In the Excel checkbook spreadsheet, that prior history of Excel checkbook register transactions can be beneficial for record keeping and having your data in one place for easy searching and access in case you need to refer to it whether you want to find out when a purchase too place, need info for tax purposes, or other details of a particular purchase or financial transaction.

How to transfer data from an older to newer version of Georges Excel Checkbook Register:

If you purchased a newer version of Georges Excel Checkbook Register, and want to keep your register transactions and data from a prior version of Georges Excel Checkbook Register, then you need to copy your data to latest version of Georges Excel Checkbook Register using the following steps::

  1. First open the older version of Georges Excel Checkbook Register. Then open the newer version of Georges Excel Checkbook Register using the File > Open command in the Microsoft Excel Ribbon menu.
  2. Make sure there are no error(s) in the Excel checkbook registers as noted in the Balance Column and Cell L2 of the Excel checkbook registers.  These errors will be highlighted in yellow. Make sure there are no Errors noted in the Accounts Summary worksheet of the checkbook spreadsheet. If there are indicated Errors, fix them first.
  3. In the Account Summary worksheet of the new version of the Excel checkbook template, add the Account Types and Account Names.
  4. Copy the data in the Excel checkbook register transactions from the older version to the newer version of the Excel checkbook spreadsheet. When you copy, you must use Copy and then Paste Special and then Values into the same columns data types so that the formatting will not get messed up. When copying, you can select the entire range of transactions in a particular checkbook register, so the migration process from one checkbook software version to a newer Excel checkbook template can be quickly completed. Please the see Help section about how to copy data in the Excel checkbook registers.  With the exception of Georges Excel Checkbook Register v11 (see special instructions below for Georges Excel Checkbook Register v11), the Excel checkbook register columns have remained the same from one version to another, so you can select the entire range of transactions in the checkbook spreadsheet when copying data from one Excel checkbook register to another so it is a quick and simple process to transfer your data to the newest version of the checkbook app.
  5. Special instructions for Georges Excel Checkbook Register v11 because Georges Excel Checkbook Register v11 has an extra column in the registers compared to versions prior to Georges Excel Checkbook Register v11. If you are transferring your register data to Georges Excel Checkbook Register v11 from a version prior to Georges Excel Checkbook Register v11, then follow these steps: For each register, open the version prior Georges Excel Checkbook Register v11 and select and copy the entire register contents to a blank new Excel worksheet in a new Excel file (when copying you must use copy > paste special > values). In the register data that you copied to the new blank worksheet, insert a column between the "Memo" and "Rec" columns. Then copy the entire range of data that you inserted a new column into and copy it into a register in Georges Excel Checkbook Register v11 (when copying you must use copy > paste special > values)
  6. If you copy register transactions that have categories that you have not added to the customizable "Category List" worksheet of Georges Excel Checkbook Register, you would need to add them to the "Category List" worksheet or change the categories in the register to a category that is already in your "Category List" worksheet.
